About the Artist
My name is Vee. I am a 25 year old artist from a tiny mountain town found in the North Cascades. About 5 years ago I moved to the sweet little city of Missoula, Montana. I started my tattoo journey about 3 years ago, when I first discovered what handpoke was. This process of body art inspired me to take my passion for drawing and illustrating to the next level. I love creating pieces that help tell your story, express your inner self, or simply make you happy when you look at them. My style consists of delicate and illustrative lifework, stipple shading and black fill.
About The Studio
Providing a Body Positive & Welcoming Space
Though the tattoo industry has come a long way, it is still a struggle to find shops that put effort into being a body positive and welcoming space for Women, BIPOC, the LGBTQ+ community, or anyone who feels they fit better outside the confines of social norms. Unfortunately, the intimacy between the tattoo artist, the art, and the client is often lost in aggressive spaces. It is not uncommon to find shops that have taken on this rough and intimidating energy. This causes clients to feel harassed, unwelcome, and judged. Many of my clients have shared with me their past experiences at other tattoo shops where they were looked down upon for voicing any concerns or discomforts. This is not be the case at Dizzy Ghost. My number one goal is to provide a safe and welcoming space for humans to get tattooed. One where people can come to get uplifted and empowered to love themselves through art and tattooing.
Eco Conscious & Vegan Friendly
Your safety and health is extremely important when getting a tattoo done! Disposable, one time use products are the best way to achieve that. Unfortunately, most of these disposable products are made of plastic and other materials that are going to outlive any tattoo. Things such as such as razors, gloves, barrier tape and ink cups can all be replaced with biodegradable materials! My focus is to create beautiful pieces of art inspired by our planet, while also investing in environmentally responsible products that have the least impact on our planet.
Dizzy Ghost offers a vegan friendly tattoo experience through tattoo ink, aftercare products, and any other products used during your session. What usually makes tattoo ink non-vegan? Tattoo inks can contain anything from bone char, glycerin from animal fat, gelatin from hooves, or insect parts such as shellac from beetles. Dizzy Ghost is proud to be using cruelty free pigments from Eternal Ink, and offer animal friendly aftercare products.
About The Handpoke Method
No one is entirely sure where handpoke very first started, but we know it's the oldest method of tattooing, and dates all the way back to ancient Egypt. Before the popularity of machines, this traditional method was preformed by the Japanese, originally known as Tebori. This method was also popular in Thailand, known as Sak Yant, and was believed to bestow powers of protection and good luck. But the modern "stick and poke" movement we are more familiar with took place in the 1970s within the skate and punk subculture. Over the past few years, hand poke has been regaining its spot in the tattoo world, and has arguably become a preferred method of tattooing. The process is similar to using a tattoo machine, but the needle is hand powered rather than electric. It's done with just a needle, tattoo ink, and the artist's hand. This method can be very delicate and simple, and that’s often the appeal. There is no loud machine buzz and is generally a bit less painful for the client. There is also something calming, therapeutic and intimate about the atmosphere that arises during a handpoke session. The quiet, gentle pokes leave a peaceful space to relax, meditate, or to exchange stories while art is slowly being merged with your skin. Many styles can be achieved with handpoke, but it is commonly used for line work, stipple shading and the use of mainly black ink. This type of tattoo is done very slowly, and comes together with one single dot at a time. This gives the tattoo a very hand drawn, organic look.
